Every year since 2014 James has written the Waitrose Food and Drink Report, an annual survey into Britain’s eating and drinking habits. Every year, the reports receive blanket press coverage, including on newspaper front pages.
Based on nationwide surveys and interviews with food shoppers and Waitrose’s experts, the reports provide a snapshot of how we live today. The findings are widely picked up by national print and broadcast media. The 2018 report made the front page of The Guardian and The Times and led to a Matt cartoon on the front page of The Daily Telegraph. The 2016 report, to pick a sample year, was covered in: The Times (news, comment and T2), The Guardian (news, lead feature G2), The Daily Mail (full page news editorial, Mail Online), The Daily Telegraph (news, features, telegraph.co.uk), The Sun, The Independent, The Evening Standard, City AM, The Scotsman, Yorkshire Post, The Huffington Post, Retail Week, The Grocer, Express and Star, Retail Gazette, Harpers Wine and Spirit Trade Review. In terms of radio coverage, it featured on BBC Radio 2 (Vanessa Feltz), Heart London (Heart Breakfast with Jamie and Emma, and Toby Anstis), BBC Radio Wales, TalkRadio, BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester, BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Kent, BBC Radio Northampton, BBC Wiltshire, Heart Wiltshire, BBC Radio Derby and BBC Radio Surrey.
